The Low Anthem’s album Oh my God, Charlie Darwin, is less a collection of tracks and musical singles, and more of a collective memory lost in Arizona sunsets and Kansas country air. Crossing genres from railroad track folk music to bottle-breaking Americana throw downs, this Rhode Island group presents a musical landscape as seen from a cross-country train ride: windowed memories seemingly unconnected if not for the unity of time and rail. The vocals are diverse, ranging from heavy and passionate to soft and saturated. The instrumentation is the same, allowing a place for everything from slow lo-fi harmonicas to heavy bar anthems, bull whips, and boot-stomped beats. The Low Anthem play music that is powerful and universal like a story you are a part of but do not own. Do not miss a chance to see them live this Tuesday at Paradise at 7PM.
