Seemingly conceived while on foot, Wetdog’s latest album Frauhaus! glows with a pedestrian rattle, so light and so loud. An exploration of the depth of the bass and the height of the voice, Wetdog fearlessly treads through back alleys and bleak side streets.
“Lower Leg” reeks of urban life and urban paint. A musical rendering of graffiti, the bone-jagged vocals are harsh but bright – neon greens and pinks – and adorn the concrete wall of the melodic bass. Turn the corner and hit a braid of stores. “Snapper” window-shops, but far from the center of the city, where cultures brush up against one another. From one display haunting dolls stare back, perhaps Hungarian in dress, clacking their voices over the electric organ music being pumped into the specialty shop. The drummer beats upon something hollow – a doll’s head.
Look both ways before crossing. Tie tight those laces. Wetdog plays at Great Scott on Tuesday, July 13th.
